Try This Hot New Social Trend: Throw a Wellness Party!

Are you tired of the inevitable hangover after a night out with friends? Do you want your focus on wellness to crossover more into your social life? Or maybe you're just looking for a fun and unique way to entertain and celebrate the holidays?

If any of this sounds like you, consider throwing a wellness party! This hot new trend is a perfect way to have a healthy, uplifting gathering that will strengthen your bond with friends and loved ones while nurturing your – and their – body, mind, and spirit.

Bonding over Wellness Creates Kick-Ass Relationships

Quality relationships are critical to our well-being. Engaging with other people builds stronger, deeper, more meaningful bonds. It’s in our nature to socialize, and therefore, we feel good when we do meaningful things with our communities. When there’s growth in the mix, empathy and compassion tend to find their way into the relationship, which adds an extra layer of awesome.

So, since being together is good for us…how about doing things that are good for us when we’re together?

The energy and synergy we get from caring for ourselves in a group setting is powerful. Some people put down a lot of coin to travel to exotic corners of the world to work on themselves, surrounded by like-minded souls. However, you can get impactful results in your backyard or living room during a wellness gathering.

Self-care together creates meaningful and authentic bonds in part because of the positive benefits that we get as individuals. Taking care of your mind and body puts you in an excellent state.

Imagine being surrounded by people who are also in a great space and have your well-being in mind as well. That is heaven if you ask me. A more peaceful state also gives you a clearer, more grounded perspective. You can see people for who they truly are, creating bonds supported by empathy and compassion.

Plus, doing wellness work can be a bit daunting at times. Doing it with other people sparks accountability and motivation. We don’t like to leave our people hanging, so we’ll show up for them. Getting to spend quality time with them is what gets us out the door with a smile on our faces.

Planning Your Wellness Party

I’m on a quest to inspire as many people as possible to view wellness as a way to spend time together and create deeper, more meaningful, and authentic relationships. As well as a just plain fun way to add to your wellness practice. Hey, it’s even a time saver because your social and wellness time doesn't always have to be separated.

There are two ways to tackle your wellness party: You can do it DIY…or you can hire me to consult with you on how to structure your party or to lead activities for your gathering.

Do it DIY

First, of course, decide on the reason for gathering in the first place! Is it to celebrate a birthday? Is it quarterly team building? Or is it just a fun Friday night activity?

Next, sort out the location and group size. Make sure you have enough room for each person to put down a yoga mat with comfortable space around them.

And now, the good part. Come up with an agenda. Here’s a suggested one. Feel free to modify it to fit your needs:

1)     Start with meditation. Lead one yourself, ask someone in your group to do it, or utilize the great resource of YouTube. There are numerous additional mediation apps and sites, as well.

2)     Next, do some movement: Yoga, qigong, ecstatic dance – or even heading out for a walk around the neighborhood are just a few ideas.

3)     Other ideas include having everyone bring their favorite uplifting quote to share with the group or read an excerpt from their favorite self-help book.

4)     Then, share delicious and nutritious (ideally gut-healthy) drinks and bites. Preparing food together is an added layer of wellness...but if it works better for you, order in.

5)     While dining, take the opportunity to let everyone share how they feel. What did they like most about the activities? What didn’t work for them? Let this be a safe space where everyone can share openly without feeling judged. People tend to open up more when they feel safe, so be sure to create that culture and environment.

6)     Before everyone goes their separate ways, make sure they all have the means to keep in touch. Send a follow-up message to keep the good feelings alive and the momentum rolling.
