Be Awesome. Go Natural.
We are from nature, and we rely on nature to live.
This planet gives us everything we need to blossom, thrive, and transform.
Nothing nourishes us more than what comes from the Earth. As hard as we try, we cannot replicate the awesome powers that the Earth provides. When it comes to self-care, using natural products enhances our lives at so many levels.
The shadow of the beauty industry can be ugly. There’s nothing pretty about harmful manufacturing practices, human rights violations, and animal cruelty.
This doesn’t mean we should stop all grooming and caring for ourselves. When we look our best, we feel our best. That confidence will show with how you carry yourself.
Our best accessories are our eyes, hair, skin, and smile. They are the ones that you’re always wearing. When they are in their best state, you have a great foundation to build from. Anything you add to your look is frosting on the cake.
We care for ourselves and the planet when we use natural products to help with our appearance. By going all-natural, we reduce the use of toxic materials and chemicals.
An old-school approach from the 1950’s still used in many of our grooming products: Life is better through chemistry. How it would harm people or the planet was not considered when this practice was established. Once established, it became the standard, deeply rooted in our systems. We have since learned that putting chemicals into our systems has long-term, harmful effects on our health and the environment.
There may be a lot of products out there that could use a facelift (pun intended). However, wise consumers (like us!) are demanding better products. The great news is clever people have heard every word. New products are regularly being released from companies that are mindful in all aspects of their business, from the materials, production, and packaging to the way people and animals are treated.
Also, these newer products tend to come from small businesses. When you support small businesses, there’s a deeper connection with the transaction. Having this connection also enhances your quality of life.
When looking for a product, the main goal is to understand all the ingredients and why they are being used. If you’re unsure and having issues finding out, that’s a red flag. Transparency is key.
Another thing to look for is the packaging. Is it excessive? Can it be reused or recycled? How much goes into the landfill?
Ideally, shop locally so you don’t have to pay for shipping. If shipping is a must, have it sent by regular mail. Anything shipped 2nd-day or faster is much more harmful to the environment.
Do-it-yourself home remedies can save you money plus tremendously reduce single-use packaging.
Try your best to head down this path. It’s a lifestyle change, and it can be overwhelming to switch all at once. Be kind to yourself. Change needs patience and tolerance to be its best. Enjoy the process and have fun doing it.
